Smith Point Bridge 5k Run This Saturday!
The 9th Annual Smith Point Bridge 5K Run at Smith Point will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The magnificent backdrop of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and white sand beaches, make this race a landmark event on the Long Island racing calendar.
This year, we expect to attract over 300 runners to support the Community Library’s Family Literacy Project, Inc and the William Floyd High School Scholarship Fund.
The Family Literacy Project, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote family literacy in the area served by the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library. It was created exclusively to provide both out-reach and in-house programs and services that encourage and support literacy for all ages.

Encore ... a new way to search for items in our library
Encore is a new and exciting product that gives us a new way to search for and retrieve items in our Suffolk County Libraries. Search results will include traditional results, such as books and DVD's as well as articles and information from our subscription databases. Encore is a great application to use from work or home....just remember, results show holdings from most of the Suffolk County Libraries, not just the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Library. Any items you place on hold through Encore will be delivered to MMSCL free of charge for you to borrow. Try it out today!

Summer Reading Clubs
Be sure to visit the library, or the library web page to join our Summer Reading Clubs. There is a club for adults, teens, and children. Some of us love to read all summer, some may be more reluctant. Studies show that school-age children who don't read over the summer, have a lower reading level when they return to school in the fall. So parents...encourage your children to read all summer long.
For those who prefer listening to their books, be sure to check out the free audio downloads on our web page. The library also has a collection of books-on-tape, books-on-cd, as well as Playaways. Playaways are amazingly easy to operate, and very portable. See a library staff member for help with any of these options.

We held our first book sale on Friday June 12th and Saturday June 13th . Residents stocked up on great summer reads for the entire family at very reasonable prices. Proceeds from the sale generated over $1100.00 for the Community Library Family Literacy Project, Inc. Thanks to all our residents who bought our used materials.
